First of all lets start out with some safety precautions. Safety glasses must be worn when working with lead acid batteries. Lead acid batteries contain sulfuric acid which can burn skin and eyes, please use caution when working with lead acid batteries. If you get acid on your skin, wash it off at once! If you get it in your eyes, flush it out and call a doctor.
FluidCharge can be used on any flooded lead acid battery. The average battery can be reconditioned 3-5 times. FluidCharge will not work on AGM batteries or gel cell batteries.
Here is what you will need to get started:
1.) The FluidCharge battery repair solution.
2.) One gallon of DISTILLED water. (this is to top off your batteries after the procedure is complete)
Here is the procedure:
1. Remove the caps from the top of the battery and remove some of the electrolyte down to the top of the plates in the battery. (See below for the procedure on batteries without caps) This can be accomplished by using a turkey baster with a hose attached to the end of it. (The auto parts store also sells a tool to remove the fluid from the battery, but a turkey baster with a hose on the end of it works well and is alot cheaper). Set aside the electrolyte that you removed from the battery in a separate container.
2.Depending on the voltage of your batteries, they will have either three, six, or eight cells per battery. For six volt batteries add 1/3 cup of FluidCharge to each cell. For eight volt batteries, add 1/4 cup of FluidCharge to each cell. Finally, for twelve volt batteries, add 1/6 of a cup of FluidCharge to each cell. If you are using FluidCharge to repair forklift batteries, the recommended amount is one bottle per cell.
3. Pour the specified amount of FluidCharge into each cell. You will use one bottle per battery. If the level of the fluid is not above the plates in the battery after adding FluidCharge, top each cell off with the electrolyte that you removed in step one. If more fluid is required, use the distilled water to finish topping them off.
3. Agitate the battery to mix the FluidCharge with the fluid in the battery by GENTLY rocking the battery back and forth. If the batteries are still in the vehicle, drive it around the block to allow the solution to mix in the battery.
4. Charge the battery at a low amperage for at least 12 hours.
5. Use the battery as usual.
Procedure for maintenance free batteries (batteries with no removable caps).
On the top of the battery you will see round "dimples or shadow marks" there will be one for each cell. Drill these dimples out with a 1/2" drill bit. Once drilled and you have access to the cells, continue to follow the instructions in step two. Once you have added the solution you can plug these holes with plastic hole caps which can be purchased at any hardware store.
